| Hi. Can someone explain me why I can not export my mixdown in mp3? It does not appear in the 'format' selection. Cheers |
| Which version of S1 are you using? (2.x, 3.x.) Which Edition (Prime, Artist, Pro)? | Hi Donald. I just updated to studioone 3. But I seem to have the same issue regarding mp3 format. |
| Only Pro comes standard with mp3 support. For Artist it’s an add-on feature. |
| Hmm. Well this is confusing because it appears from this that PreSonus now has it in all versions. Go down the links page about half way and you'll see this. 'MP3 encoding and decoding' with a blue dot under all versions. But the link in Switchbacks' post counters that. I may be confused as I've always just had the 'Pro' version for my 9 years. | You can also export MP3 from the free Audacity editor. https://www.audacityteam.org/ You will first need to install the free LAME MP3 encoder. https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/mp3 . tions.html Then just open your wav format file in Audacity, and choose 'File > Export > Export as MP3'. | With Studio One 3 Artist I’d pay the $15€11. It’s a PITA having to jump between apps for mp3 conversion. Or you can upgrade to v4 Artist and get the mp3 support that way. |

| JohnBW wroteMP3 encoding should be free. Key patents for the format expired in 2017. As many others have said. It is free for v4 users, across all versions, including v4 Prime (free version). They aren't going to go back and update v3 just to add that in. PreSonus paid a licensing fee in the v3 days so that's why it was a paid add-in. If someone sticks with v3 Artist they can purchase the add-in. (Not recommended, update to v4 is a better value.) The update to v4 Artist from v3 is $49 when it's not on sale. $299 for the Pro upgrade. Both of those are on sale for 30% off (or more) a couple times per year. (The OP had to be using Artist, because Pro had MP3 encoding included in both v2 and v3.) Or someone on v3 can install v4 Prime (in parallel) and encode to MP3 for free until they update. Lots of options. | donaldbaarns wrote Same situation with Cakewalk, but they released a free patch to enable the encoder in Sonar a couple of years ago, right after the patent expiration. It had also been a paid add-on originally. Or someone on v3 can install v4 Prime (in parallel) and encode to MP3 for free until they update. They would have the same issue with that method as using the free Audacity to encode their song. Extra hoops to jump through by using more than one application to export a file. I was merely just offering ANOTHER option here. And Audacity is a light and fast wave editor and audio recorder that's worth having on board for other reasons. Just another tool for the toolbox. Personally I would stick with a lossless compression method such as with FLAC export, but I do realize that some social media sites are stuck in the past with the mediocre lossy MP3 format. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/FLAC It seems that Studio One 3 and 4 support FLAC. And unlike MP3, FLAC is a free, open source codec. But like you said, there are options. DAWs: Studio One Pro v4.6.1, and others . | I updated to V4. Problem solved. Cheers everyone. |
